Pro Tips & Practice

🔥 Hot tip for ChatGPT

Be careful when pressing Enter in ChatGPT - this sends your prompt. If you want to start a new line, use Shift + Enter.

Your turn, try drafting an email

Adapt the prompt below to suit your needs:

Draft an email for [purpose/aim] and that explains/covers the following [information/bullet points]. The email is going to [audience], who are interested in [state their interests].

For example

Write an email for following up with prospective clients to encourage them to make use of our event planning services, and that explains/covers the following:

  • Our 10 years of experience in event planning
  • Our ability to deliver classic, modern, and themed events
  • Our event consultancy service, including a 30% discount for charities

The email is going to directors and events/campaign managers at NGOs, not-for-profit organisations, and CICs, who are interested in convenience and cost-effectiveness.

Next Steps:

Once you have set up the prompt, run it. How did you get on? Was the output as you expected? Were there any errors that you needed to correct? How about the tone?

Remember, if you're not getting the output you want, ask your AI assistant to adjust and tell it what you need. You may even want to provide it with a sample of the output you want or rewrite an output that your AI assistant produces and then paste it back into your AI assistant. It will be worth your while, as it will learn about your preferences over time.

In the next part of the lesson, we will explore adapting the tone of the email. For now, save the prompt that you have created, as you may want to tweak it and use it again later.
