Master the basics of effective AI prompting
Click each card to reveal expert tips that will transform how you communicate with AI

Give the AI a role
Define the perspective and expertise level for better context
Example:
"State the perspective you are writing from such as, I am a Change Manager, I am an AV producer, or I am a Campaign Manager."

Be specific
Provide clear, detailed instructions and context
Example:
"Write an introductory email explaining what the campaign is about and the details of the latest event based on the following bullet points..."

Identify an audience
Specify who you're writing for to tailor the message
Example:
"Prospective clients, Chief Information Officer, Continuing Professional Development learners, etc."

Mention tone or format
Define the style and structure you want
Example:
"Formal, Professional, Academic, Engaging, Casual, Friendly, etc."

Ask for rewrites or improvements
Iterate and refine to get better results
Example:
"Rewrite the introductory email to showcase the information about the value our service provides."

Ask for clarification questions
Let AI help you refine your prompts
Example:
"When you tell the AI to ask you questions for clarification purposes, that helps you to refine and improve the prompt. It also improves the quality of the output."

Next Steps:
Once you have set up the prompt, run it. How did you get on? Was the output as you expected? Were there any errors that you needed to correct? How about the tone?
Remember, if you're not getting the output you want, ask your AI assistant to adjust and tell it what you need. You may even want to provide it with a sample of the output you want or rewrite an output that your AI assistant produces and then paste it back into your AI assistant. It will be worth your while, as it will learn about your preferences over time.
In the next part of the lesson, we will explore adapting the tone of the email. For now, save the prompt that you have created, as you may want to tweak it and use it again later.
